英文發音規則 [1/2]

前言

這些都只是大略的規則, 實際上都有例外
因為英文實在是融合了太多外來語言了

單音節(含重音節)中, 母音的基本發音規則

1. 如何劃分音節: 音節以母音作為計算, 有幾個母音就有幾個音節
2. 單母音節: 一個音節有一個母音字母
   • 開放音節: 音節的結尾為母音
   • 封閉音節: 音節的結尾為子音
3. 雙母音節: 一個音節有兩個母音"字母"
   • 親密音節: 音節中兩個母音字母是相連的, 或是只相隔一個子音字母
     • e.g. 母音 + 子音 + e
   • 疏遠音節: 音節中兩個母音字母之間相隔兩個(含)以上的子音字母
4. 母音字母 a、e、i、o、u的發音
   • 開放音節或親密音節: 發長母音[e]、[i]、[aɪ]、[o]、[ju]/[u]
     • au為其中一個例外
   • 封閉音節或疏離音節: 發短母音[æ]、[ɛ]、[ɪ]、[ɑ]、[ʌ]

單字中的發音規則

1. 字母a: 以下列單音節(含重音節)中, 母音基本發音之外的規則
   • [ɑr]: 單音節中的ar: arm, art, bark, car, card
   • [ɑ]: w + a: swan, want, was, wash
   • [ɔr]: w + ar: war, warm
   • [est]: aste: paste, taste, waste
   • [endʒ]: ange: change, strange
   • [ek]: ache: ache(疼痛)
   • [ɔl]: al/all: all, ball, call
   • [ɔk]: al + k: talk, walk, chalk
   • ai與ay
     • 單音節(含重音節):原則上遵循雙母音節的親密音節發音[e], 但有許多例外, 舉例如下
       • Taiwan是發[aɪ]
   • au: 只發一個音
     • 單音節(含重音節)通常發[ɔ]: cause, fault, pause
     • 輕音節通常發[ə]: restaurant
2. 字母b
   • 結尾是mb或bt, 字母b不發音: bomb, climb
3. 字母c
   • ce、ci、cy, c發[s]的音
   • 一個英文單字中有兩個字母c，其中一個往往會發[s]的音，而另外一個則發[k]
     • bicycle, circulate, clearance, success, vacancy
   • 輕音節的cea、cia、cie、ciou, ci或ce則發[ʃ]的音
4. 字母d
   • ds發[dz] (只發一個音), woods
   • ed, 依照以下順序檢查
     • [ɪd]: 發音是[d]或[t]之後
       • started, needed, wanted
     • [t]: 原型動詞字尾是無聲子音[f]、[k]、[p]、[s]、[ʃ]、[tʃ]、[θ] 之後
       • jumped, bluffed, watched, picnicked, washed
     • [d]: 原型動詞字尾是母音或有聲子音(濁音)之後
       • opened, smelled, bothered
       • learned: I have learned a lot.
     • [ɪd]: 動詞 + ed (過去分詞)當形容詞時
       • naked, ragged, wicked, wretched, …
       • learned: I have a lot of learned books. 學術性書籍
         The more learned a man is, the more modest he usually is.
5. 字母e: 以下列母音基本發音之外的規則
   • [ɝ]: 單母音節中的er: clerk, her, serve, term
   • ex的e音標
     • [ɛ]: ex在重音節: excellent, exercise, extra
     • [ɪ]: ex在輕音節: except, exchange, extreme, explain
6. 字母f: 發[f]，只有of才發[v]的音
7. 字母g:
   • [g]: 大多數發這個: beg, dog, game
   • [dʒ]: 後接字母「e」、「i」、「y」時多數發這個, e.g. age, ginger, gym
   • 例外: get, together, begin, gift
   • gh:
     • [g]: 在字首時: ghost
     • []: 字母i之後則不發音, 複合母音字母au或ou之後原則上也不發音: daughter, bought
     • [f]: 例外的情況大多發這個音: laugh, rough, tough
8. 字母h: 原則上發[h]的音，少數情況不發音: exhaust, exhibit, ghost, honest
9. 字母i: 以下列母音基本發音之外的規則
   • [ɝ]: ir: bird, first, girl
   • [aɪld]: ild: wild, child
   • [aɪnd]: ind: blind, find, kind, mind
   • [aɪ]: igh: fight, flight, height, high
     • 例外: eight是發[et]
   • [ju]: iew: view
10. 字母j: 原則上發[dʒ]
11. 字母k: 原則上發[k]
    • ck也同樣發[k]
    • []: kn的k不發音: knee, knife, knight, knock, know
